El 15 de marzo de 2014 el Presidente Rafael Correa, en su Enlace Ciudadano N° 365, descalificó al periodista Diego Oquendo y tras tildarlo de “mentiroso”, “amargado” y “desesperado”, invitó a “protestar contra tanta infamia” y a “mandarle cartas”, por comentarios vertidos en su espacio de opinión y análisis en radio Visión.
El Jefe de Estado rechazó comentarios realizados por Oquendo insinuando que se toma lista a los asistentes que van a sus enlaces sabatinos. En ese sentido dijo lo siguiente: “Este señor se convenció de lo que quiere escuchar y resulta que todos ustedes son unos corruptos, unos borregos porque están aquí por la lista que les tomamos. (…) Una vez más quedará como mentiroso y miren como ofende y agrede al pueblo ecuatoriano (…) Todos a protestar contra tanta infamia ¡Todos a mandarle cartas a este tipo! Que inaugure de vez en cuando la ética, la decencia y la honestidad. Y verán que el malcriado y ofensivo voy a ser yo porque le estamos contestando. Qué mayor ofensa que mentir tan descaradamente ¡Qué barbaridad! ¡A otro con esos cuentos!", apuntó el Presidente.
Tras esto, el periodista fue nombrado nuevamente en el segmento de “La amargura de la semana” por haber cuestionado a los asambleístas oficialistas al apoyar la reelección indefinida del Primer Mandatario. Al respecto, el presidente Correa aseguró que a Oquendo “se lo ve frustrado totalmente, desesperado” y que “en su vanidad este señor cree que puede decir cualquier cosa”.
Tras esto, se mostró un video con declaraciones de Oquendo y el Jefe de Estado concluyó con la siguiente afirmación: “La vanidad y mediocridad de esta gente, pues qué pena por él porque seguiremos desmontando sus mentiras, demostrando sus falacias ¡Ya basta de tanta infamia! ¡Ya basta de doble moral! ¡Ya basta de politiqueros, amargados, disfrazados de radiodifusores!"
Oquendo ha sido constantemente descalificado en los enlaces sabatinos, especialmente a partir del pasado 22 de febrero, un día antes de las elecciones y después de que el periodista moderó el debate entre Augusto Barrera, candidato a la reelección para la Alcaldía de Quito por el partido oficialista y Mauricio Rodas, candidato opositor, que a la final ganó los comicios.
President constantly disqualifies journalist on his Saturday national broadcast

Go to another one with these stories!" the President said.
After this, the journalist was shown in the segment of “The bitterness of the week" for questioning the ruling assembly to support the indefinite reelection of the Executive Chief. In this regard, the President Correa said that the journalist Oquendo "would be totally frustrated, desperate” and that " this gentleman in his vanity thinks he can say anything."
After this, a video was shown with Oquendo’s comments, so the Head of State concluded with the following statement : " This is the vanity and mediocrity of these people , then too bad for him because his lies continue dismantling , demonstrating its fallacies Enough with infamy ! No more double standards! No more politicians disguised as journalists! "
Oquendo has consistently been disqualified in the presidential Saturday broadcast, especially around February 22nd , a day before the election and after the journalist moderated the debate between Augusto Barrera, candidate for re-election for mayor of Quito by the party ruling and Mauricio Rodas, opposition candidate who won the final elections.
