Radio Deportes Dorado 1530 AM, de la ciudad de Pelileo, ubicada al sur del país deberá pedir disculpas públicas tras recibir una amonestación escrita por parte de la Intendencia de la Información y Comunicación Zonal 3. La razón: emitir comentarios discriminatorios, cuando el locutor del programa “Variación Musical” transmitido el 7 de enero de 2016 asegurara que “las mujeres no saben de quien son sus hijos porque no fueron educadas bajo parámetros de moralidad”.
Tras un proceso iniciado de oficio, la Intendencia concluyó que el medio incumplió con el Art. 62 de la Ley Orgánica de Comunicación (LOC) al difundir mensajes y contenidos discriminatorios. La sanción acogió un informe con fecha de 23 de mayo de 2016 remitido por el Consejo de Regulación y Desarrollo de la Información y Comunicación (Cordicom), en donde se determinó la responsabilidad del medio por difundir mensajes que constituyen discriminación hacia el género femenino.
El 9 de junio de 2016, en la audiencia, el representante del medio reconoció que el locutor emitió mensajes discriminatorios durante el programa, de forma involuntaria, y afirmó que “nunca se pensó en dañar a nadie”. Por su parte, el representante de la Intendencia argumentó que la radio utilizó términos peyorativos y discriminatorios hacia la mujer.
Radio station is cautioned after announcer claimed that women do not know who have fathered their children
Radio station Deportes Dorado 1530 AM, from the city of Pelileo, located in southern Ecuador, must apologize publicly after receiving a written caution from the Administration of Information and Communication for Zone 3. The reason: issuing discriminatory comments when the announcer of the program "Variación Musical", broadcasted on 7 January 2016, claimed that "women do not know who have fathered their children because they were not educated in moral values".
After a process initiated ex officio, the Administration concluded that the radio station failed to comply with Art. 62 of the Organic Communication Law (LOC) by disseminating discriminatory messages and content. The sanction was based on a report dated 23 May 2016, submitted by the Council for the Regulation and Development of Information and Communication (Cordicom), which ruled on the media outlet's responsibility for the dissemination of messages that constitute discrimination against the female gender.
On 9 June 2016, at the hearing, the radio station's representative acknowledged that the announcer issued discriminatory messages during the program, involuntarily, and stated that "there never was the intention of harming anyone". Meanwhile, the Administration's representative claimed that the radio station used pejorative and discriminatory terms against women.
