La Confederación Ecuatoriana de Organizaciones Clasistas Unitarias de Trabajadores (CEDOCUT) denunció este 7 de junio de 2016 una “arbitraria e intimidante” irrupción policial durante una rueda de prensa en la sede de la organización sindical en Quito, que fue convocada para anunciar un plantón en contra de las medidas del gobierno, tras la subida del IVA al 14%.
En diálogo con Fundamedios, el presidente de la Cedocut, Mesías Tatamuez narró que los uniformados llegaron a las instalaciones de imprevisto, asegurando cumplir “órdenes superiores”, con el fin de verificar lo que estaban haciendo allí. En ese sentido cuestionó que los gendarmes no tenían una orden o documento formal. Pese a esto, Tatamuez comentó que, como no tienen nada que ocultar y al tratarse de un evento público, se invitó a los uniformados a asistir a la rueda de prensa.
“Es una nueva agresión de las tantas que nos tiene acostumbrados el gobierno, para tratar de intimidar y acallar las voces de los trabajadores y del pueblo y atropellar nuestros derechos a la organización y libre expresión. Rechazamos esta forma de intimidar y de creer que así nos van a callar”, comentó Tatamuez, quien aseguró que esta no es la primera vez que se dan estos hechos. Dijo que es la cuarta ocasión en la que llegan uniformados a las oficinas de la organización.
En su cuenta oficial de Facebook, la Cedocut publicó fotografías sobre el hecho y la posición de la organización rechazando este acto.
Trade union denounces arbitrary police intrusion in its facilities
The Ecuadorian Confederation of Workers Unitarian Class Organizations (CEDOCUT) denounced on 7 June 2016, an "arbitrary and intimidating" irruption by the police during a press conference at the headquarters of the trade union organization in Quito, which had been convened to announce a sit-in against government measures following the increase of VAT to 14%.
Speaking with Fundamedios, CEDOCUT's president, Mesías Tatamuez, narrated that the policemen arrived unexpectedly at the facilities, claiming to follow "orders from above", in order to verify what they were doing there. He questioned the fact that the officers had no formal order or document. Despite this, Tatamuez said that, because they have nothing to hide and as the press conference was a public event, the policemen were invited to stay.
"This is a new aggression of many that the government has got us used to, to try to intimidate and silence the voices of the workers and the people and trample our rights to organize and express ourselves freely. We reject this way of intimidating and attempting to silence us", declared Tatamuez, adding that this is not the first time these events occur. He said it is the fourth time that police officers have arrived at the offices of the organization.
In its official Facebook account, CEDOCUT published photographs of the incursion and the organization's position rejecting it.
