Por publicar “una descripción recargada y saturada de los hechos que encaminan a sobredimensionar la muerte de un ciudadano”, y por afectar “la dignidad de las personas y familiares de la víctima, enviando un mensaje de morbo a los lectores” fue amonestado por escrito el periódico “La Noticia” de la provincia de Los Ríos por la Intendencia Zonal 5-8 de la Información y Comunicación, tras un proceso iniciado de oficio y sancionado el 1 de junio de 2016.
La entidad reguladora concluyó que el medio incumplió la norma deontológica establecida en el artículo 10, numeral 3, literal d) de la LOC, referente al ejercicio profesional, en el que se menciona evitar un tratamiento morboso a la información sobre crímenes, accidentes, catástrofes u otros eventos similares por una nota publicada en su edición Nro 450, del 11 al 13 de marzo de 2016, por una noticia titulada “Caballo se le cruza en el camino y lo manda a la tumba”. Durante la audiencia ante la Supercom, el representante del medio reconoció que se publicó la nota con una foto sin editar del cadáver de la víctima.
Newspaper is cautioned for publishing article "charged and saturated with morbo"
The newspaper La Noticia, from the province of Los Ríos, was cautioned in writing on 1 June 2016 by the Information and Communication Intendancy for Zones 5 - 8 for publishing "a description charged and saturated by facts that lead to oversize a citizen's death" and for affecting "the dignity of persons and relatives of the victim, sending a morbid message to the readers" after a process initiate ex officio.
The regulatory entity ruled that the newspaper failed to comply with the ethical rule established by Article 10, paragraph 3, letter d) of the Organic Communication Law (LOC), regarding professional behavior, which states that "a morbid handling of information about crimes, accidents, disasters or other similar events must be avoided", concerning an article published in its 450 edition of 11-13 March under the headline "Horse crosses his path and sends him to the grave". During the hearing before Supercom, the media outlet's representative acknowledged that the article was published with an unedited photograph of the victim's body.
