El 25 de noviembre de 2014, diario Expreso publicó una rectificación ordenada por la Superintendencia de la Información y Comunicación (Supercom), mediante la cual la entidad estatal aseguró que el medio de comunicación “desinforma a la ciudadanía”, por la publicación de una nota que hacía referencia a una sanción recibida por diario Extra, tras publicar sobre el accidente de Malaysia Airlines.
En media página de la sección de Actualidad, el medio de comunicación reprodujo el escrito enviado por la Supercom y en una nota adjunta de la redacción, el diario aseguró que “La rectificación exigida por la Supercom ha llegado a este periódico de forma insólita: armada, presentada y titulada tal cual aparece en la página. EXPRESO reproduce la nota sin tachadura ni enmienda alguna, pese a que ni los tipos de letra, ni los titulares con palabras en mayúsculas, ni los destacados de más de una columna correspondan al estilo general del periódico”. Al respecto, el medio de comunicación aseguró que el derecho de rectificación obliga, para los textos rectificados, a espacios iguales a la nota original presentada, pero no concede atribuciones específicas en cuanto a presentación, armado de página ni titulación.
En cuanto al contenido de la rectificación enviada por la entidad de control, diario Expreso aseveró que está descontextualizada y que omite elementos objetivos de la nota .
El pasado 13 de noviembre de 2014, la Superintendencia de la Información y Comunicación (Supercom) sancionó a diario Extra con una amonestación escrita por no “evitar el tratamiento morboso de la información” sobre crímenes o accidentes, tras la publicación de dos notas periodísticas. A criterio de la entidad de control, el rotativo inobservó las normas deontológicas contempladas en el artículo 10, numeral 3, letra la Ley Orgánica de Comunicación (LOC) y le instó a abstenerse de reincidir en dichas prácticas.
Daily journal is required to publish rectification under the terms the Supercom imposed
On November 25th 2014, Expreso daily journal, published an orderly press rectification by the Superintendence of Information and Communication (SuperCom), by which the state agency said the media "misinform the citizens", by publishing a note referring to a penalty that Extra newspaper got after a publication on Malaysia Airlines’ accident.
In half page of the Latest News section, the media reproduced and published the letter sent by the Supercom and in a note was an attached of the writing of the ratification; the newspaper said "The rectification required by the Supercom has come to this newspaper in an unusual way: armed filed and titled as it appears on the page. EXPRESO published the letter without any erasures or amendments, although neither fonts, nor the headlines with capitalized words, nor featured in more than one column corresponding to the overall style of the newspaper". In this regard, the media said that the right of rectification forces to the rectified text to be equal to the original note submitted, but the Institution does not have specific powers granted, newspapers format and content.
Regarding the content of the correction sent by the controlling entity, Expreso journal said that the content is decontextualized and is omitting objective elements of the note.
On November 13th 2014, the Superintendence of Information and Communication (SuperCom) sent a written sanction to Extra newspaper for not "avoid the morbid treatment of information" about crimes or accidents, because of the publication of two journalist news. A criterion of the Supercom, the newspaper did not pay attention on ethical standards referred to in Article 10, paragraph 3, of the Organic Law of Communication (LOC) and urged him to refrain from repeating such practices.
