Broadcast interrupts the news and accuses media outlet of transmitting information without verifying it
On February 15th, 2016, a broadcast of four and a half minutes long interrupted the news of Ecuavisa in order to affirm that the TV station transmitted information that was not verified and that did not have the proper cross-check of the facts. The news report referred to the group of women assaulted by the security officials of the President of Turkey.
The broadcast, that was only transmitted in the news of Televistazo from Ecuavisa TV station, claimed: “Without meeting the minimum requirements for the practice of a responsible journalism, this news bulletin airs a report that was neither verified nor corroborated".
After showing images of the women that were assaulted by the security officials of the President of Turkey, along with the declarations of Natasha Rojas, from the movement Unidad Popular, in which she demanded a declaration from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the government’s broadcast mentioned that “the person that appeared as assaulted was never attacked. However, Ecuavisa claimed it. Even though this news bulletin knows that she is the provincial director of the MPD, now known as Unidad Popular, it never presented her as such and preferred to pass her off as a member of a group of women and to describe her as a victim. Is this journalism? Or it is about a political platform disguised as journalism?” .
Ecuavisa transmitted images of the assault of the Turkish security officials against the activists that had been recorded by a team of reporters that was at the event. The camera operators of the channel were also attacked by the same officials and were impeded of recording what was happening with the activists.
