Karlos Andrade, corresponsal en Loja de la cadena Ecuavisa y periodista de radio Centinela Del Sur, denunció ser víctima de amenazas y asedio a su trabajo. El 24 de mayo de 2016 se produjo un incidente después de haber realizado dos entrevistas en las que cuestionó a la gobernadora de la provincia, Johana Ortiz Villavicencio. El periodista responsabilizó al padre de la gobernadora de estos hechos y anunció su retiro temporal de los medios.
En su cuenta personal de Facebook, el periodista anunció el pasado 2 de junio que ha decidido tomarse un corto retiro de su actividad en la radio debido al “odio y mala fe de un familiar de una autoridad de alianza PAIS en esta ciudad que pretende callar a la prensa con amenazas”.
En diálogo con Fundamedios, Andrade comentó que ese 24 de mayo cumplía una cobertura especial en el cantón Saraguro y al medio día salió en vivo en el noticiero de la radio con una entrevista a Luisa Lozano, una de las sentenciadas a 4 años de cárcel, por las protestas del pasado 17 de agosto del 2015. Durante la entrevista Andrade preguntó a Lozano que si tuviera en frente a la señorita Gobernadora y al Presidente de la República, qué les diría, a lo que ella respondió, refiriéndose a la gobernadora, que se sentía indignada de que una mujer haga eso contra otra mujer y que ella no tiene ni siquiera la capacidad moral, para estar en un cargo allí diciendo que representa a las mujeres.
Tras esto, Andrade hizo una segunda entrevista al alcalde del cantón Saraguro, Abel Sarango, y le preguntó sobre los hechos ocurridos el 17 de agosto del 2015, tras lo que cuestionó a la Gobernadora y aseguró que por ineptitud de la funcionaria se dieron los hechos que derivaron en la detención de un grupo de personas que se conocen como “los 29 de Saraguro”, tras una jornada de protestas.
Andrade aseguró que esto motivó para que el padre de la Gobernadora (Alcivar Ortiz Alvarado), tan pronto terminara el informativo, acudiera a la cabina de la radio. Según testimonio del director de noticias, Fabián Coronel Vélez, el padre de la gobernadora fue a buscar al periodista y preguntó lo siguiente: “dónde está este tal y cual” refiriéndose a él. Coronel también aseguró que este amenazó al periodista y dijo: “Si ahora no lo hago desaparecer es porque mi hija está en el cargo, pero tan pronto mi hija salga del cargo va a ver de los que soy capaz”.
Journalist reports threats from Governor of Loja’s father and announces his temporary retirement
Karlos Andrade, Ecuavisa’s correspondent in Loja who also works at radio station Centinela Del Sur, reported he has been the victim of threats and harassment at work. On 24 May 2016, an incident occurred after he had completed two interviews in which he questioned the province’s governor, Johana Ortiz Villavicencio. The journalist blamed the governor’s father for these events and announced his temporary retirement from the media.
In his personal Facebook account, the journalist announced on 2 June that has decided to retire for a short time from his activities at the radio station due to the «hatred and bad faith of a relative of an Alianza PAIS authority in this city who aims to silence the press with threats».
Speaking to Fundamedios, Andrade said that on 24 May he was in charge of a special coverage in the Saraguro Canton and went live at noon on the radio station’s news program with an interview with Luisa Lozano, one of those who were sentenced to 4 years in prison for the protests of 17 August 2015. During the interview Andrade asked Lozano what she would say to the governor and the president of the republic if they were standing before her, to which she replied, referring to the governor, that she was outraged that a woman would do that against another woman and that the governor did not even have the moral capacity to occupy a position saying that she represents women.
Andrade carried out a second interview with the mayor of the Saraguro Canton, Abel Sarango, and asked him about the events of 17 August 2015, after which he questioned the governor and stated that it was because of her incompetence that the events occurred, resulting in the detention of a group of people known as «the 29 from Saraguro» after a day of protests.
Andrade stated this was enough motive for the governor’s father (Alcivar Ortiz Alvarado) to appear at the radio station as soon as the news program was over. According to the news director, Fabián Coronel Vélez, the governor’s father went looking for the journalist and asked: «where is this so and so», referring to him. Coronel also stated that he threatened the journalist saying: «If I don’t make him disappear now it’s because my daughter is in office, but as soon as my daughter is out of office he will see what I’m capable of».
