Diario La Hora fue censurado vía la imposición de contenidos oficiales bajo la figura de una “rectificación” enviada a día seguido por el Servicio de Rentas Internas SRI entidad que utilizó el estilo y diseño registrado por ese medio de comunicación para hacerlo similar a una nota periodística con titular incluido.
La primera “rectificación” publicada el 20 de julio se dio por una nota del 27 de junio titulada “El impuesto al patrimonio afecta al sector ganadero”, sobre la afectación que significa esa carga impositiva para el sector ganadero. La nota oficial impuesta en cambio decía: “Apenas el 0,31% del sector ganadero pagaría contribución del 0,9% al patrimonio”.
En la rectificación impuesta, el SRI cuestionó a La Hora por presentar “imprecisiones”. El periódico aseguró que se vio en la obligación de publicar dicha rectificación porque “no hacerlo traería serias consecuencias económicas para La Hora, dado el contexto legal, ampliamente desfavorable para el periodismo y la libre expresión”.
Al día siguiente, La Hora fue víctima de un nuevo acto de censura por parte del SRI con la imposición de una nota que, al igual que la anterior, llegó a la redacción del diario diagramada y titulada como respuesta a una publicación hecha por el medio el 20 de junio sobre el alza del Impuesto al Valor Agregado IVA y su afectación a la comunidad Tsáchila. En la rectificación, titulada “el incremento temporal del IVA no afecta a insumos para la agricultura”, la entidad estatal cuestionó al periódico por “generalizar una supuesta afectación en la agricultura”.
Newspaper censored with the imposition of article by tax authority twice on a week
La Hora newspaper was censored with the imposition of official content sent as «rectification» by the Internal Revenue Service SRI using the style and design registered by that media outlet to make it’s rectification look like a news story, including the headline.
The first «rectification» published on 20 July was sent because of an article of 27 June titled «Equity tax affects the livestock sector», about the effects of that tax burden. The official note said instead: «Only 0.31% of the livestock sector will pay equity tax of 0.9%».
In the imposed rectification the SRI questioned La Hora for publishing «inaccuracies». The newspaper stated it was forced to publish the rectification because «not doing so would cause serious economic consequences for La Hora, given the very unfavorable legal context for journalism and free expression».
The next day, La Hora was the victim of a new act of censorship by the SRI with the imposition of a note that, just like the previous one, arrived at the newspaper already laid out and with a headline in response to an article published by the paper on 20 June on the rise in Value Added Tax VAT and its impact on the Tsáchila community. In the rectification, titled «the temporary increase in VAT does not affect agricultural inputs», the state agency questioned the newspaper for «generalizing an alleged effect on agriculture».
